Is Swine Flu The Next Global Health Treat Or Is Just Another Regular Type Of Virus?

Fitchburg and Leominster MA Events News.- For years public health experts anticipated that a stronger new type of flu will evolved, and this new disease will be the one that will kill millions of people around the world. They don't know if this is the next global treat, because is too soon to tell... But, people want to really know, if the swine flu (Wikipedia) will be another pandemic like the ones is 1918, 1957 and 1968?

Here is their answers:

"What makes this so difficult is we may be somewhere between an important but yet still uneventful public health occurrence here — with something that could literally die out over the next couple of weeks and never show up again — or this could be the opening act of a full-fledged influenza pandemic," said Michael Osterholm, a prominent expert on global flu outbreaks with the University of Minnesota.

"We have no clue right now where we are between those two extremes. That's the problem," he said." Full story...

What's Swine Influenza (Flu)?

"Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type
A influenza that regularly cause outbreaks of influenza among pigs. Swine flu
viruses do not normally infect humans, however..." Read full definition.

The whole thing started in Mexico where the virus killed 86 residents and had around 1,400 cases since April 13. The country where put in emergency alert to try to stop the swine flu to gain any more exposure. Authorities cancel church services and closed schools. Also the president of Mexico Felipe Calderon gain more authority to quarantine people infected with the virus.

Also people started wearing surgical masks as a precaution against infection inside subway transportation lines in Mexico City... This started on Friday.

Cases of the infection have been mild in the U.S.. Health department officials are investigating sick people that traveled to Mexico and then came back with the sickness. Other nations were also affected and they also are investigating their ills... Some of those countries are France, Israel, Zealand, and Canada.

Can the infection travel all the way to Massachusetts?

Well, there are no death from patients in the U.S., but they reported eight cases on Saturday morning and by the time the afternoon hit on Sunday there were 20 cases, which include New York City with eight high school kids. This fast viral movement call the attention of the media that even The New York Post had a headline on their Sunday issue titled "Pig Flu Panic" right on their front page.

So, the answer is yes. The disease can reach Massachusetts metro areas and then spread to small town like the Twin Cities Leominster and Fichburg Mass.

The good news is that this time the U.S. is ready and prepare in case the situation gets worst. Federal officials already declared a public health emergency and started transporting antiviral medicine to health centers all over the nation.

How To Avoid It!

1. - Cover up cough and sneezes.

2. - Wash hands often.

3. - Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth.

4. - Avoid contact with sick people.

Here are some videos to help you understand the virus and the whole situation.

How A Walk From Leominster To Boston Mass Can Grow Your Business

The Twin Cities Mass Daily News Blog For The City Of Leominster and Fitchburg MA, also check Leominster MA Real Estate.

What Walking From Leominster to Boston Mass Have Anything to Do With Growing Your Business?

Fitchburg and Leominster MA Events News.- Well, a lot... This is the opinion of Ed Drozda a small business expert that wrote an article about his experience in the walk-a-thon, which also help him understand a few factors or elements about running and marketing a business successfully.

The Avon Breast Cancer 3 Day walk is a great fundrasing event that was created to help breast cancer research Avon foundations. Also check the 3 Day breast cancer foundation.

Here is the article:

"Take a Good Look at Yourself... and Grow Your Business

By Ed Drozda

Imagine This!

I am going to have to ask you to use your imagination a bit. Picture a middle-aged
male, 6 feet tall, long, wavy blond hair, about 185lbs. Now for the fun part, he
is dressed in a yellow tutu, a tiara adorns his head; he has a magic wand in one
hand, a megaphone in the other and a toothbrush in his mouth.

For the record, the picture you have conjured up is me. So why the picture you ask or maybe it is more like why and what the…? The picture was taken at an event called the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day. In this event over 3000 people walked 67 miles from Leominster MA to Boston. You heard it, 67 miles in 3 days on 2 feet. My wife and I had walked it the first year and for the next two years we joined the crew of 500 or so volunteers that supported the walkers. Our crew team ran a pit stop; our goal was to provide treats, fluids and moral support for the walkers. As you might have guessed our team theme was tooth fairies.

Sometimes you have to step outside of your comfort zone and adopt a less serious approach. At the end of those three days, despite the benefit of that megaphone I had no voice left. Let me tell you, it is some challenge to keep people charged when they are physically and emotionally worn. Let’ s face it, these people walked for a lot of reasons. Some of them are breast cancer survivors themselves, others are
walking in honor of loved ones lost to or still battling this devastating disease. For me, it was in memory of my Mom who had breast cancer yet died of other causes and a dear friend who at the time was battling the disease and who
ultimately succumbed, this past year.

Don't Be Sad

But this is not a sad story; in fact this experience was the most life-changing of my time on this earth. Each of my three years participating in this event I was fortunate to be amongst amazingly selfless people. To say I was humbled does not come close to describing the feelings that surged through me. The tears flowed freely as did the joy, the cheers and the hope. There is no place I would rather have been, no experience that would have satisfied me more profoundly. I discovered strength and passion in me I had no idea existed, not to mention what I learned of so many others.

Business Is First and Foremost About People

OK, so what does this have to do with business anyway? Well, here are my thoughts. A business is first, about people; employees, clients, the public at large, and so on. The common denominator in business is people. Yet, when we get caught up in running a business (or for that matter being in business) it’s easy to lose our appreciation for those people upon whom our business depends. That is not something we can afford to do. My 3-Day experience taught me a lot about how I look at myself and at others.

Take a Walk Alongside Yourself- You Will be Amazed

You have heard the old adage ‘walk a mile in my shoes’. How about walking a mile alongside yourself? What would that be like? Take a close look at your day to day. How does it feel? What would it be like to be your own employee, a client or even your boss? Do you know yourself this well? If you do I congratulate you as I suspect you are in the minority. If you do not, my challenge to you is that you start the journey. When you do, you will be enriched in ways you cannot imagine. I know; it took me three days and 67 miles.

Start walking...

Ed is a board certified blood bank specialist and has enjoyed over 20 years in the field of clinical operations and healthcare administration. Here a video that shows people at the event. See how exited is to be part of it and how happy they are even after a long walk. This video was film in 2006 at the 2 day walk for Breat Cancer...

As a business owner I think you should always look for ways to give back to the community or to poeple by sponsoring or participating this type of helpful events. Luis Galarza a local Small Business and Marketing consultant recommends also to find ways to create your own fundraising event in partnership with a charity that supports or do research of some kind, find in your heart who you want to get the benefits to.

Leominster MASS 2009 Fix Up Part 1

The Twin Cities Mass Daily News Blog For The City Of Leominster and Fitchburg MA, also check Leominster MA Real Estate

Where To Get Pizza In Leominster Massachusetts?

Fitchburg and Leominster MA Events News.- First I need to say that the City of Leominster Massachusetts is one of the most successful cities in the North Central Mass, The Worcester County, and the Twin Cities where Fitchburg is the other city, which by the way is not doing that well, but I’m going to leave that our other post title “Fitchburg MASS 2009 Fix-Up”, and let me tell you that list there is a lot longer than this one.

Leominster MA is business friendly town is that is one the main reasons this city is doing so well, their revenue is steady, and it also have a great Mayor who knows how to budget and apply the money in ways that keeps the city in such a high level of success.

Why I said this, well if you aren’t from here you need to know that the town has many great places, local and national companies, events, and historical spots that keep outsiders coming back for more every single week, spots like:
  • Super Walmart.
  • The Target Plaza.
  • The Mall.
  • Four Point Hotel.
  • The Plastic Museum.
  • New Leominster Library.
  • Lowes.
  • Home Depot.
  • Chillis.
  • Long Horn.
  • Outback.
  • TGI Fridays.
  • Olive Garden.
  • And many more...

But, there are a few things that the city needs to change or improve to make it even better.

Things That Need A Fix-Up.

I list the things below after asking around 130 local residents, what they think Leominster can do better or needs improvement? Many people where concern about adult entertainment, others about kids entertainment, others about taxes, others transportation, others about the recession or low economy help, others want it better or new local companies, and others about employment or jobs.

As you can see many people think there is a lot of room for improvement, there is also a lot of concern about the Mayor and his team just thinking about helping the income and look of the city, but they have no rescue plan for unemployed residents, taxes, low economy, which included things like rent and monthly utilities.

Here are peoples concerns:

Unemployment: If you didn’t know there is a lot of problem in this area, a few local factories closing down one of the big issues here, a lot of local businesses laying-off workers as a strategy to increase their profit in slow times. If you go to the Mall At Whitney Field you will notice that they have a few retail places empty, and others getting ready to close like TB Toys which is going out of business.

All these problems have a big impact in the unemployment office, where now will take you almost all day to get an interview.

Many people agree that the town needs to do something. One thing they can do is provide up to date information about current job openings in the local area or neighbor towns. Because many local companies aren’t advertising their “job openings” as a way to safe money. We want to step in and give businesses a low cost avenue to promote their job opportunities here in the Twin Cities News Blog, we will provide you a post or article where you can give all the information about the job without limits of words, plus your article which is also a web-page will stay post forever which is a good form of advertising for your company, just send the details about the opening to our email at (twincitiesmas@yahoo.com) we will contact you in 24 hours or less, we will post your notice for only $20 per article.

Another solution is for unemployed residents to start or invest in a new or current business, I personally recommend this option to anyone who have self-starting motivation and are risk takers.

We ask Luis Galarza a local business and Internet marketing expert who will be partnering with our co-founder to start a local educational small business association to see what he thinks about this issue, “The economy in down but revenues in many markets are up, in fact because of this slow economy there is better opportunities in many markets that had hot trends for a few years, and currently are getting better. Plus, you can start an Internet business with a low budget or even for free if you know how, off course.”, Said Luis, who is also offering free business consultation in Leominster and Fitchburg MA to any one who wants to start or grow their own business. Also he offers Internet marketing consulting, courses, and services. For information contact him by leaving a message in his voicemail at 978.425.1422.

Also you can contact the CDC Community Development in Fitchburg by calling 978.342.9561 for basic business advice, and business plan course, which is free for those who qualify.

Recession or Down Economy Help: The recession is making everything difficult for home owners, real estate agencies, travel agencies, employment, car dealerships, and almost any other type of business. People have less money because they are getting less hours at work, for example workers from Plastican Inc. don’t have weekend over time like they use too, and employees are struggling to keep up with bills, some already loss one or all their cars, and houses. People are asking them self what’s the city’s plan to help them because everything is still cost the same or more, gas is high, rent is crazy high, and important bills like electricity, gas, and oil is off the roof, specially where Unitel is the utility provider. Residents don’t really care much about cable, or any of those things, main utilities are a must in New England’s cold weather.

Is use to be many help centers in the city to assist people with money problems, but after Bush magic disaster most of those services are gone.

I recommend residents with money problems to try to get free food at the Hispanic American Center in Leominster located in the corner of Spru St. and Second St., also you can go to 71 Pleasant St. where the church is at, there is a non-profit organization dedicated to help people with addictions they also provide free food, and another one is Gigy’s Pantry on Mechanic St. next to Jade Chinese Restaurant. Also, you can visit the local Fuel Assistance Massachusetts office in Fitchburg located on Main St. to get utility help, food stamps, and extra cash assistance if you qualify.

Also if you are a member of MassHealth may also qualify for a discount with your local utility company, just call them and have your MassHealth member information on hand.

I recommend you to read our article title “Save Energy And Cut Your Bills In Leominster And Fitchburg MA” for extra tips on how to save money from monthly electric and gas bills.

Tomorrow I will continue with part 2 of this series.

Barack Obama: President For Good-What Experts Said Before Election Results

The Twin Cities Mass Daily News Blog For The City Of Leominster and Fitchburg MA, also check Leominster MA Real Estate

Barack Obama Is The New President of United States Of America, The Question Is, He's A President For Good Or For Problems? Read Articles From The Experts Before Election Results!

Fitchburg and Leominster MA Events News.- There are many opinions about every aspect of President Barack Obama that a lot of experts make public opinions for, here I put together some of those opinions:

Did Google Inc Donate $373,212 to Barack Obama's Campaign?
By Andy Gimpaya

At OpenSecrets.org, you find the list of top contributors to the Obama campaign. Google Inc is 6th in the list with $373,212 , behind Goldman Sachs, $627,730;University of California, $523,120; JPMorgan Chase & Co,$398,021; Citigroup Inc,$393,899; UBS AG, $378,400; and just slightly ahead of Harvard University, $369,802. Microsoft Corp donated $276,925 and ranked 15th among the top contributors.

Did Google indeed give $373,212 to the Obama camp? The answer is yes, but the money is not a corporate contribution but is the cumulative contribution from Google employees. Google Corporation did not give a cent and it does not run out of representatives in online forums who are quick to explain this.

Still with Google personnel leaning towards Obama, some concerns were raised about McCain getting shortchanged in Google searches and his general visibility in the Google-led World Wide Web. No this will not happen, one says, Google search algorithms have been well tested for security and reliability and cannot be tweaked by one or two employees. A naughty suggestion comes out to ask the AdWords team to raise the minimum bids for McCain and GOP related keywords, making them less visible in the AdSense feeds.

Not many are really surprised that Google (and Microsoft) employees will lean overwhelmingly towards Barack Obama. These are "highly educated younger people who are smart enough (and "tuned in" enough) to know that voting for McCain is absolutely unreasonable." Most voices in the online communities in fact tend to root for Obama and no further search engine manipulations are needed. Whereas Obama is known to be active posters in online forums and walks around comfortably with his Goldberry gadget, McCain openly admits that he does not know how to use the mouse and the keyboard (as if that is something to be proud of). He also adds that he leaves all his email works to his wife. All these do not speak well of McCain's learning curve on things new and unfamiliar. Too bad for him the world is not perfect (understatement applied), otherwise with his age and experience, McCain would have been the run away winner in the US 2008 election even this early. Even while he whines occasionally that this "young man Obama" has "got everything all wrong", there is not a thankful younger generation who cares to listen.

More than fifty years ago, the irrepressible English philosopher Bertrand Russell warned us to be wary of anyone of who touts his 50 years of experience because he could be talking only of 1 year of experience repeated 50 times. Russell was not one who would go for more of the same. If he were alive today, he would be one with Google and the multitude worldwide who chant in their hearts "Change We Can Believe In." Obama Vs McCain - Issues Comparison
By Brian Garvin

So today let's speak about the Obama Vs McCain Issues Comparison and see who believes in what. Even if you are reading this after you vote, which you probably will be, it never hurts to learn who believes in what. You never know when you'll see them together on another show, perhaps siding with each other in the future.

Obama Vs McCain Issues Comparison - China

Barack Obama has said that he would take China to the cleaners if they start to use their economic power they are gaining in the US against us by altering the value of their currency. John McCain thinks that China and Russia's rapid growth poses a threat to the security of the United States and because of this we should have in place a stronger military.

Obama Vs McCain Issues Comparison - Budget

John McCain's theory is to stop the plethora of Government Overspending and to minimize budget shortages through initiatives that advocate less spending on the parts of the budget that do not affect Social Security, Medicare and other programs. Barack Obama wants to hold all the wealthy and privileged accountable by making it mandatory that they come forward full circle regarding their Pet Projects, meaning the surrendering all available documents regarding this to be made public and under scrutiny. Barack Obama also wants to make Lawmakers accountable for new spending that they decide to do through new money they generate as well as mandatory cuts in other programs to compensate for this.

Obama Vs McCain Issues Comparison - Immigration

Barack Obama is OK with immigrants staying in the United States as long as they meet a bunch of predefined criteria. He believe that they should be responsible for paying any back taxes or possible fines that they have accumulated. He also feels that they should have at least a basic understanding of the English language. In addition, Barack Obama feels like these people should be honest, hard working people and not citizens that break the law and that they'll have to wait their turn. This means anyone that has applied for citizenship before them will go through the process first.

Senator John McCain believes that legal immigrants should carry their own weight and not come over to the United States with the attitude that we owe them anything. His beliefs are that these people should not have access to public services such as food stamps, health care and housing. This would make it almost impossible for someone to move over here and follow these rules unless they had a job lined up or family to help support them.

Barack Obama's Website is Web 2.0 at Its Best
By Carmin Wharton

Regardless of your political affiliation or belief, model your website after Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's website and I bet you'll see a significant increase in visitors to your website which cannot help but lead to an increase in clients and sales. Before I share why information to support my claim, let's examine Web 2.0.

What is Web 2.0?

Unless you have been living in a cave for the last year, you have heard of Web 2.0. For those cave dwellers, simply put, Web 2.0 is communication and interactivity between people on the Internet.

How Barack Obama Is Using Web 2.0?

Obama's website and his campaign is Web 2.0 personified. Here's why:

Once you skip the contribution page, the first thing you see is an invitation to send his Vice President pick, Joe Biden, a welcome note!

Then there was the text message sent to millions of people at 3:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time announcing his Vice-President pick.

The website is rich with video on just about every page.

There is a "Barack TV" section with channels including "Issues," "Your Story," "Barack's Story," "Michelle's Story."

The site is designed to interact with those who are deaf and visitors who speak Spanish.

My favorite: The invitation to send a campaign contribution for as little as $5.00 and be entered into a contest to be 1 of 10 people picked to attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver, at the campaign's expense!

Barack has a blog that is updated on a regular basis.

Other Web 2.0 Components on Barack Obama's Website:

There is a section where Hillary Clinton supporters are asked to join and are welcomed to Obama's campaign! When you click through to the page, a warm notice is posted about Hillary's accomplishments. Visitors are asked to sign up and "share your story." An attractive picture of Hillary Clinton is strategically placed on the page with a video stream of Obama speaking, placed in a noticeable but unobtrusive place on the page.

There is a section where visitors are asked to help fight the smear campaigns that serve to divide people and cast suspicion about who Barack Obama is. To dispel untruths, Barack has even posted a copy of his birth certificate along with pictures of the American flag on his plane and him visiting and interacting with American troops.

Barack Obama's web design integrates every single Web 2.0 component into the website:

Social Networking: The ability to create your very own "my BarackObama" mini-website.

Blogging: Barack Obama has a blog on his website and visitors and supporters can create a blog too.

User-generated content: visitors have the ability to express themselves in many ways. In addition to the ability to congratulatory message for the newly selected Vice Presidential candidate, you can share your own Barack story by uploading a video, etc.

Video: There are videos running concurrently all over this website.

Widgets & Gadgets: These include a resource library, the ability to get involved in a phone bank, the ability to get "action center updates," etc.

Yes, this indeed is one cutting edge, fully Web 2.0 integrated website. My to-do list for today has just changed. I am going to integrate as many Web 2.0 components into my own website. I strongly urge you to do the same!

Barack Obama Is The New President Of United States Of America

The Twin Cities Mass Daily News Blog For The City Of Leominster and Fitchburg MA, also check Leominster MA Real Estate

People Is Ready For A Change, And That Change Started Today... Barack Obama Is The New President Of United States Of America, Which Make Him The First Black President In The History Of The U.S.!

Fitchburg and Leominster MA Events News.- I'm glad Barack Obama won the elections (2008), we need something different, someone with a different approach to things, because what the last president did clearly didn't work for any of us. The government spent trillion of dollars in fixing another country's administration system, but forgot completely to budget and use some of that cash to keep this country on a successful path.

Many people knew that McCain was just a Bush with a different name and face, thank God he didn't win, I think most of the people that voted for him was from the wealthy class, I said this because Obama is planning of making them pay more taxes than the poor, Robin Hood style, take from the rich not from the poor.... I think that is a very smart approach in economy down times, why taking more money from those that don't have it?

Now we need to give a big brake to Barack Obama before start seeing any changes, we have to remember that he taking charge of a country with an economy crisis (recession), two wars that still need to be deal with, a crashing stock market, high rates of unemployment, a global bad reputation, slow new energy improvements, and global warming issues. Is no way we are going to see fast changes, but I hope he and his team are smart enough come out with a reliable solutions to current recession problems, because if this is fix the other problems can deal easier.

From the news:
""The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep," Obama cautioned.

Young and charismatic but with little experience on the national level, Obama smashed through racial barriers and easily defeated Republican John McCain to become the first African-American destined to sit in the Oval Office, America's 44th president. He was the first Democrat to receive more than 50 percent of the popular vote since Jimmy Carter in 1976.

"It's been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this date in this election at this defining moment, change has come to America," Obama told a victory rally of 125,000 people jammed into Chicago's Grant Park.

Obama scored an Electoral College landslide that redrew America's political map. He won states that reliably voted Republican in presidential elections, like Indiana and Virginia, which hadn't supported the Democratic candidate in 44 years. Ohio and Florida, key to Bush's twin victories, also went for Obama, as did Pennsylvania, which McCain had deemed crucial for his election hopes.

With just 76 days until the inauguration, Obama is expected to move quickly to begin assembling a White House staff and selecting Cabinet nominees.

Campaign officials said Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel was the front-runner to be Obama's chief of staff. The advisers spoke on a condition of anonymity because the announcement had not yet been made.

Obama's victory was sweetened by Democratic gains in both houses of Congress. In the Senate, Democrats ousted Republicans Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina and John Sununu of New Hampshire and captured seats held by retiring GOP senators in Virginia, New Mexico and Colorado. Democrats scored big gains in the House, as well.

When Obama and running mate Joe Biden take their oath of office on Jan. 20, Democrats will control both the White House and Congress for the first time since 1994.

"It is not a mandate for a party or ideology but a mandate for change," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California said: "Tonight the American people have called for a new direction. They have called for change in America."

After the longest and costliest campaign in U.S. history, Obama was propelled to victory by voters dismayed by eight years of George W. Bush's presidency and deeply anxious about rising unemployment and home foreclosures and a battered stock market that has erased trillions of dollars of savings for Americans.

Six in 10 voters picked the economy as the most important issue facing the nation in an Associated Press exit poll. None of the other top issues — energy, Iraq, terrorism and health care — was selected by more than one in 10. Obama has promised to cut taxes for most Americans, get the United States out of Iraq and expand health care, including mandatory coverage for children.

Obama acknowledged that repairing the economy and dealing with problems at home and overseas will not happen quickly. "We may not get there in one year or even in one term," he said. "But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you, we as a people will get there.""
