Fitchburg MA and Leominster MA Daily News.- Yes, another recall, this time is Colgate warn everyone in the U.S. and New Zealand about a counterfeit toothpaste label as with the Colgate brand has been sold in local discount stores in four U.S. states.
The problem is that this fake Colgate toothpaste has a poisonous chemical. The Food and Drug Administration official, Mr. Doug Arbesfeld said on Wednesday that after testing the so called fake toothpaste with the Colgate label they did found a poisonous chemical.... But, they are not sure if this is really a Colgate product.
They said that this type of counterfeit act happened before and people don't need to be alarm because the poisonous chemical has low health risk.
The fake Colgate toothpaste came from South Africa and was sold in the next U.S. states:
- New Jersey
- New York
- Pennsylvania
- Maryland
The box says "Made In South Africa" and includes the Regular, Gel, Triple, and Herbal version of the toothpaste.
Here is what Colgate has to said:
Source: Taipetimes.comColgate-Palmolive issued a statement yesterday saying the tubes are counterfeit.
The company said it does not use, nor has ever used, diethylene glycol as an ingredient in Colgate toothpaste anywhere in the world.
"Colgate does not import toothpaste into the US from South Africa," said the statement.
New Zealand warning is for all toothpaste imported from China which has some kind of toxins.
So, I recommend to check all your Colgate toothpaste and see if it has the "Made In South Africa" message, if it does, please notify the authorities so they can extend the recalled and counterfeit warning up to Massachusetts.
