North Central Mass News.- LUNENBURG -- The irresponsability of a dog owner gets a 7 years old boy kill. The bullmastiff dog attacked and killed a Lunenburg boy Saturday afternoon when he was playing into a neighboring yard. I mean come on, I don't think that was the first time that kid played on this persones yard.
The name of the boy or the owners dog remains unknown. Lunenburg Superintendent of Schools Loxi Jo Calmes said the boy was an excellent student at the Lunenburg Primary School.
The deadly bull mastiff was euthanized Saturday by the local Animal Control Officers. Police responded to a report of a kid attacked by a dog at 59 Easter Brook Road at about 12:38 p.m.
The boy was pronounced dead by UMass Medical Center in Worcester physicians by 1:33 p.m., police said.
Town officials held a brief press conference at 4 p.m. Saturday.
"The town is in shock," Chief Administrative and Financial Officer Dan Keyes read from a prepared statement. "His untimely death has rippled through the community."
Most neighbors lights were out, and many could be seen walking between each other's houses over their back yards and avoiding reporters on the street.
One man who spoke briefly, but did not give his name, only said that the boy loved playing soccer.
"We want to extend our condolences to the family of this young student,"
The Worcester County District Attorney's Office is investigating the death, Police said, and referred further questions there.
Police said that it is not a criminal investigation. We hope they find out what really happen that day...
